Mixing it up in the Bedroom

We just presented designs for a few rooms to a lively young professional in Arlington. She is on top of things – in addition to having a great job and already owning property, she had set aside a furniture budget for her beautiful apartment! I was impressed!

For this job, we provided the designs and all of the recommended items, and our savvy-young-something is doing all of the purchasing herself from retail stores. So she benefits from Arlington Home Interiors’ design experience and fabulous sourcing skills, and saves by doing what we  call “the back end” herself (purchasing, tracking, communicating with vendors, receiving, inspecting, returning if necessary, and installing).

The inspiration photos our client provided us were bold and bright, with shots of color and pattern. We were excited to have a chance to create a feminine space with so much personality.

For her bedroom, we created a bohemian meets modern vibe using a palette of coral, lilac and grey.

The focal point of the room is this gorgeous coral velvet headboard from Ballard Designs which will look sumptuous against the violet walls.

Both the coral and the violet can be found in this amazing rug from Anthropologie that will sit at the foot of the bed. It will be layered on top of a large sisal rug, which brings a lot of texture to the space and connects the sleeping area with the work zone and the cozy reading nook. Layering is a great way to define a particular area, as well as manage your rug budget.

We added this bamboo dresser from Pier 1, for clothing storage. I am a sucker for faux bamboo. We kept the rest of the furniture in simple, Parsons-style lines to give the room a modern edge. We mixed in some textured and tribal pillows to finish the look.

Our client is so happy with everything and has already started ordering. We plan to return once everything arrives to help with placing all of the items and do some accessorizing. We’ll keep you updated on progress. This project is going to be a beauty!

We’ll share our plans for the living room soon.

Hope you are enjoying  the beautiful fall weather!
