High Point Market Trends

After spending three days at the High Point Furniture Market, I discovered several wonderful new vendors that we plan to start using for upcoming projects. It’s always a thrill to be at market and see all of the new introductions.

What’s hot right now?

Hair Chic!

We love our hair-on-hide. It used to be that you’d drape a Mongolian hide over a chair to transform it – now the chair is being made of it. I saw more outrageous versions of hides, hair and faux hair this market. Used sparingly, it can add some texture and warmth to a room. It speaks of luxury, or a good sense of humor.

Flower Power

Floral fabrics, painted flowers and even over-sized floral wallpaper. If any of you ladies have a home office, this is a great place to try this out. I could imagine some floral used sparingly in a hallway or sun room.

Cynthia Rowley for Hooker mixes hair and floral for a decidedly feminine office set.

Mid-Century Modern Reincarnated

Some of these showrooms were beyond being influenced by mid-century design, they were like stepping back in time! Who needs 1st Dibs when you can get the new and improved version? A few great options here, and some stinkers too.

gold sofa

Highland House – Love the gold sofa (so outrageous that it works!) and navy painted linen table, but the painting took it over the top for me.

media sideboard

Highland House – gorgeous media sideboard with decorative pulls.

Jonathan Charles room

Jonathan Charles – I think this takes the concept a tad too far.

I’m seeing many of these trends showing up in the fashion magazines as well. I’d love to hear what trends you’re favoring this year. Please comment below!
